Louise August (1931- 2017) was a New York-based artist who studied at the Cooper Union. She worked across diverse mediums, including woodblock printing, serigraphy, and mural painting. Her distinctive style often integrates themes of Jewish heritage, Scandinavian or Swedish folklore, and mythology. Her artworks are preserved in prestigious permanent institutions, including Yale,  the Princeton University Museum of Fine Art, and the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Elements of her work include mythological or storybook subjects, stylized figures with expressive, doll-like faces, a patterned beast, and intricate floral and celestial motifs heavily influenced by traditional folk art.
