This Norwegian silver and enamel spoon set is a finely crafted example of early Scandinavian souvenir and presentation silver, housed in its original silk- and velvet-lined fitted case. The interior is stamped Chr. Larsen – Ur & Gullsmeder – Hammerfest, identifying the maker as Chr. Larsen, a jeweler and silversmith working in Hammerfest, one of the world’s northernmost towns. During the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Hammerfest was an important port for Arctic travel, trade, and tourism, and luxury silver objects like this were produced as refined keepsakes rather than everyday utensils.

Each spoon is made of silver and decorated with guilloché enamel, a labor-intensive technique in which fine engine-turned waves are cut into the metal before being overlaid with translucent enamel. The result is a luminous surface that shifts with the light, here rendered in jewel tones including purple, cobalt blue, green, brown, and pale aqua. Sets like this reflect the strong Nordic tradition of enamelwork and the period’s emphasis on craftsmanship, precision, and regional identity. Preserved together in their original case, these spoons offer a tangible glimpse into Scandinavian decorative arts and the culture of travel and gift-giving at the turn of the 20th century.
