Clara Ledesma (Dominican-American 1924-1999
Interesting ink and watercolor fantasy surreal painting by listed Dominican Republic artist Clara Ledesma (1924-1999). Ledesma studied at the National School of Fine Arts in Santo Domingo and later in Spain where she was influenced by Miro and Klee. Ledesma returned to the Dominican in the 1950s and exhibited regularly at the Dominican Republic Biennial, winning prizes in 1956, 1958, and 1960. Ledesma also exhibited throughout Europe, Latin America, and the U.S. The Museum of Modern Art in Santo Domingo held a retrospective of Ledesma's work in 2015. Her work is in major collections worldwide.
